Match Me If You Can by Sandy Barker

fast-paced
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated

3.5

At the beginning I really enjoyed the book and read at least the first half really quickly. But the more I read the less I liked the book and where I could buy into a mutual interest and attraction, this turned into a really cheesy love story in the end which didn’t seem authentic at all.

The characters were okay, but nothing more. I wasn’t invested in either of them and while it was sometimes quite funny, I was waiting for the spark between Poppy and Tristan. It felt more like they were living through one ridiculous (and therefore definitely funny at times) situation after another, but I didn’t feel an emotional connection beyond the mutual understanding that the people surrounding them were kind of insane or chemistry beyond the acknowledgement that they found each other physically attractive. And chemistry is more than that, love obviously a whole nother story.

So I wasn’t happy with the too-happy-to-be-realistic ending and actually couldn’t care for how the book ended. The last third or so kind of spoiled the reading for me and I was relieved when I finished the book. Honestly, I should have DNFed…

3,5 stars for the premise of the book and because it was well written and definitely had its moments.
