A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber

A huge disappointment.

The Ballad was one of the best books I've ever read, but having read all of Stephanie's books, I should have known it was just a fluke. The sequel made absolutely no sense and I can't believe I wasted a year of my life desperately waiting for it.

There was no plot in this book. I literally couldn't tell you what it was about despite finishing it about half an hour ago. It would be impossible to re-tell the story because there was none.
Yes, the characters did things. Seemingly unrelated things. I couldn't figure out the motivations behind people's actions.
All the questions I wanted answered were left unanswered. Why did Jacks become a Fate and how? Who was the first girl he loved? What is going to happen next? AND WHY DOES HE EAT THOSE FUCKING APPLES? Unbelievably disappointing when you put your time and emotions into a trilogy and the author has the audacity to spit in your face. The "conclusion" was incredibly unsatisfying. This is what I waited for? We don't know why the Valors created the Valory, what their next plans are, what each one of them does. Why did Stephanie point out their childhood bedrooms in the Wolf Hall and the fact they've been locked for centuries? How does LaLa's story end? Will Evangeline die within Jacks's lifetime? AND AGAIN, WHY DOES JACKS EAT THOSE FUCKING APPLES?! Almost no storylines were properly tied up at the end.

I was most confused about Jacks's actions in this book, he seemed torn in many different directions. I loved the things he said to Evangeline whenever he saw her, but they seemed to be written specifically for readers to quote them and make pretty edits of them. Almost none of his words ever matched his actions or thoughts, the situations were all over the place. This excludes chapter 29 of course, chapter 29 supremacy for life. Even though again it felt very much like it was written specifically to be popular with the readers.

Don't even get me started on the way Evangeline got her memories back. I'm going to restrain myself from commenting on it.

If I had to describe this book in 1 word, it would be 'underwhelming'.
