Took about a day to write the review as I had no idea how to rate it. On one hand, it’s not a particularly enjoyable read, it’s harsh, visceral and violent with a LOT of very uncomfortable imagery. But on the other hand the themes and messages of this book are literal genius, how Han kang fitted all this into less than 200 pages is incredible. Themes of mental health, obsession, exploitation and loneliness are tackled so perfectly and subtly. Worth noting also that the book definitely does not give you all the answers, it’s down to the reader to think and ponder a lot of these questions themselves after finishing the book. Overall though, very good and will stay in my memory for a long time
Graphic: Eating disorder, Mental illness, Self harm, Sexual content
Moderate: Rape, Suicidal thoughts
