jadesara15 's review for:
Brother
by David Chariandy
Read for class.
So tempted to give this five stars on the prologue and ending alone. Chariandy creates both a tender elegy and a heartbreaking portrait of grief. The middle is quiet, almost too quiet, but the attention to emotional detail Chariandy has is remarkable. He is able to write in a way that is both cutting and understated, both poetic and plain.
There is a heavy pulse that thrums under every sentence of this book and I don’t think I will be able to forget it for a long time.
