wtf was this, Abby?
this felt like it was written (or at least edited) by a different person. it was SO choppy, especially in the beginning of the book — the writing did improve in the last third or so. there was so much telling and so little showing that I didn’t really care about these characters being together, especially because there were so many reasons why they should each move on.
also literally everything that could go wrong did, which did not make this a fun or charming read, except if you count laughing because of courseher beloved grandmother dies and of course her dad is cheating and of course she’s fired. Pick one devastating plot point and stick with it, lol. Don’t even get me started on Xavier’s need for therapy and “cutesy” reliance on breaking labor laws to keep his practice going.
I will say the depiction of dementia caretaking was fairly accurate to my own experiences with it, so there’s that.
also do a better job at describing your characters. repeatedly telling me the MMC looks like Rhysand from ACOTAR means nothing to me and is so unbelievably cringey. ew.
