After reading the first book in this series, I was looking forward to the story of Beckett and Evie. In some ways it met my expectations, but in other ways it did not. I think my main issue was with the narration. I was glad the author went with dual POV this time around as I had missed having it in the first story. Yet I couldn’t get used to the male narrator. I don’t listen to audiobooks at a high speed as a lot of audiobook listeners do, but I had to speed up his narration. That, in turn, had the female narrator a bit too fast for me. I got used to the speed eventually, yet I just couldn’t sink into the book with these narrators overall.

As for the story, I greatly enjoyed Evie’s story arc. Basically, she has grown in a different direction over her years of being an influencer and she is looking to find her happiness again. It’s not about the money or fame for her, but the joy she used to have in telling stories. She realized she was happy when at Lovelight Farms so that’s where she goes.

Beckett had some issues that surprised me, but I loved that they were included in this story. It was an interesting facet of the character. But when things went downhill, which you can see coming from a mile away, the love I had for Beckett soured a bit. He was being obstinate which made him act a fool to Evie. It was something I felt he should have apologized for more than he did.

The connection between Evie and Beckett was sweet and could turn sultry on a dime. Both characters were lovable, especially Beckett with his menagerie of rescued animals. I don’t know if all of my issues with the flow were due to the audiobook, but I think I may try reading the ebook of the next book in this series instead.
