A People's History of Heaven

A beautiful, lyrical, and ultimately uplifting book. Subramanian shows that Heaven, the slum that's home to the five coming-of-age collective narrators (along with their mothers) is more than a place of poverty and loss. While there is plenty of both, there is also friendship, community, and joyfulness. The full cast of characters was unique, well developed, and relatable -- no matter where we grow up, most of us can remember the close friendships and intense experiences that define our teen years. Highly recommended.
