Saving Sunflower
by Rae Lyse
glad I finally read this
This was a VERY well written story, I hate I put it off for so long. It’s surprising, this was the author’s first published work; because again it was well written.
My only issue was the pretty obvious similarities between this and a similar book, so much so it made it hard for me to get out of my head. Even though I loved her version of the storyline better. If that makes sense?!
The characters, pacing, realistic story telling all made this a great book. I loved that the author didn’t rush to wrap it all up, the conclusion was realistic. And also left room for the couple to grow. Rather that’s on pages or in our own head.
I can’t remember the last time I cheered so hard for someone, the way I did for Dominic. He’s a character, you just want to see succeed- because it was obvious he didn’t stand a chance (without help) due to his upbringing.
I don’t know if her experience as a social worker or what- but the author’s ability to paint such a vivid picture of generational and systemic issues and the long lasting impact. Perfection!!
Can’t wait to read book 2.
