Payback's a Witch by Lana Harper
2.0
I rally wanted this to be my new favorite book but it ended up being kind of meh. Emmy had no personality and her POV was really boring. Also as a dramatic person myself, I found her reason to leave town and not visit (not even seeing her parents) for years overly dramatic and I didn't feel like it made any sense. The romance between Emmy and Talia was boring and barely even there and at least I could not feel the chemistry between them. Overall all of the characters and relationships were flat.
Someone described this as a John Tucker must die but witchy which in theory sounds amazing, but one of the biggest problems I had with this book was that due to the lack of context and flatness of the characters I didn't even hate Gareth (is that even his name?). I did not even care if he ended up winning the tournament and tbh I don't even feel like this "revenge" was satisfying.
Anyway, great book idea. Did not enjoy the execution so much. I did however get the witchy vibes the author was going for and really enjoyed the book cover and the pages introducing the new chapters.
