While I was hoping this would be another of the cozy and reflective cat reads, I was often frustrated by the protagonist. I will say, I think the premise sets him up to come off as selfish, by having to decide whether or not an item disappears from the world. ESPECIALLY when it's only for one day of life. It made me resent the protagonist and while there are some nuggets of wisdom, I found his reflection and pondering to be insincere and pretentious.
