It´s been a week since I finished this book and it´s still hard to find the correct words to adequately explain what Cańt Get Enough meant to me. Everything I’ve read from Kennedy Ryan has been a masterpiece, even the novellas. She has such a beautiful way of writing that is SO relevant to you specifically, that makes it feel like the story is happening to someone you know personally, but that also gives you so much hope for not only the FMC but for your life as well. Every Kennedy Ryan book, but especially each book in the Skyland series has fundamentally changed me as a person. I didńt expect to have issues I didńt even realize i had to not only be talked about in a way that doesńt feel like an attack, but to see someone deal with them in maybe not traditional ways and also have friendships and romantic relationships that help and love them through it. Reading a Kennedy Ryan book is like getting therapy with spice.
Cańt Get Enough was written so beautifully, with the struggles that Hendrix faced with her mother, with being loved while being a bigger black woman, and accepting love especially when she doesńt think she needs it. The way Hendrix deal´s with her mother´s Alzheimer’s, the guilt of not being there enough, the anger at not being involved with everything, the fear and hurt of your loved one not remembering you and acting completely out of character was SO realistic. It felt like Kennedy observed my family and knew the things I needed to hear but couldńt vocalize so she wrote it down instead. I cried SO many times reading this book and it was extremely cathartic. There were happy tears, sad tears, hurts that Íve never told anyone tears, fears that I barely acknowledge to myself tears, realizing i could have that tears, and so many more. The most beautiful part of this series is the friendship between all three FMCS. I didńt realize how important and necessary the type of friendship that Yasmine, Soledad, and Hendrix have is until I was blessed enough to fall into several myself. Most times in books, Black women don’t get to see themselves in the multitudes that we contain. We dońt get to see ourselves being soft, not having to be strong ALL the time, being loved OUT LOUD and correctly, having positive female friendships , and being the successful educated businesswomen that we often are. In Kennedy´s books that´s not only commonplace but it´s the norm.
Reading a Kennedy Ryan book is like getting the hug you need when you’ve been broken down by life from your big sister who will tell you what you really need to hear but will also be your biggest supporter and hold you down for life. I am so grateful that Kennedy was blessed with the gift to write, because shés helping so many people across the world with her books.
I received this book as ARC via netgalley from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving this review of my own volition.
