To The Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn Ivey

5.0

i cannot believe i hadn't heard of this book before stopping at my local library and seeing it sit on a staff recommendation table. i picked it up on a whim in hopes to be transported to a snowy, barren landscape with intriguing characters and engaging plot and i got that and more. this book has so much depth to it. you follow one of the first expeditions into Alaskan territory after the United States purchases it from Russia (stolen native land). Forrester and his few men and eventual crew attempt to document the demeanor of the indigenous people of the land. meanwhile, Forrester's wife is at home reeling from recent news, wishing she was on the expedition with her husband to plot avian behavior in the region. there are maps, photos, sketches, letters, journals, and more riddled throughout the pages. it was highly enthralling, transportive, and perfectly paced that i was hooked from cover to cover. can't wait to read this author's pulitzer nominee. highly recommend!
