I keep trying out new authors/series on my Kindle Unlimited trial, and this book was one of the ones I settled on based on the synopsis and the ratings that I saw people giving it. I was glad I decided to try it out, and I was very invested in this series after the first book. I think this series does some interesting things to the 'usual suspects' in Urban Fantasy, or at least in how they relate to one another. I haven't ever read, that I recall at least, a series where different types of Weres are actually depicted to be all that different in any meaningful way before, it was really well done here I think. There are things about Jacky that I really relate to, but she is also not a cardboard cutout with the least personality the writer could instill in hopes of readers relating to her either, which I appreciated. And her cast of characters around her all feel like they could be real people, which is always a nice thing to find when reading a new book/series/author. I immediately downloaded #2 after I finished this one.
