This story (this book) felt like a transitional story. It brought little new things, but just expanded and explored things that had already been introduced in previous books.

I enjoyed it, but it felt like most of the "good stuff" was going to be revealed in another book...as the story winds down.

I still don't like what happened to Reyes, but it really does feel like a Starfleet way of removing the problem. Reyes did the best that he could, in a VERY difficult situation. Starfleet should've been more proud of their commanding officer of the Vanguard...and should've protected him better. Admiral Noguro DID stick his neck out for him (Reyes), but I guess exile is better than prison (change of perspective).

BUT, I have to say, that I do NOT believe that this is the last that we hear from Reyes. We all know that Starfleet is going to pull him back to help FIX the next bad situation...that we ALL know is going to happen within the next two books.

The other storylines were not my favourite, though some were better than others. I guess each reader may have to tell their own story.

I will be reaching for book 8, soon.
