I like Catherine Morland. I've always liked Catherine Morland. And Henry Tilney. But it's been such a long time since I've read the original Jane Austen novel, because I forgot about how much I hate hate hate the Thorpes. And McDermid, in her updating of this novel for modern times, made the Thorpes so relatably insufferable it almost turned me off the book. But she also made Henry Tilney Scottish, and thereby pulled me back in.
