This is the third of Penner’s books I’ve read and I think it falls as the second highest rated. I enjoyed the historical timeline immensely, namely Mari and Holmes’ love story. However, unlike how I felt with the Lost Apothecary, I was not invested much in the present-day timeline. Although both do work eel together to deliver the plot, I could have done without the present-day timeline and more about the history behind the story.
