How to Keep House While Drowning: A Gentle Approach to Cleaning and Organizing by K.C. Davis

hopeful informative inspiring fast-paced

4.5

I never do self-help books but for some reason I stumbled across this and gave it a chance. This is a compassionate how-to guide for both thinking about your relationship to care tasks and actually doing care tasks. I thought it was a perfect balance of both.

It’s obviously written by a middle-class white mom but I think she does a good job of positioning herself and accommodating for people who live outside of that experience. Some of her tips about  parenting (or comments about having a kitchen island or laundry room lol) were irrelevant to me but could easily be skipped or overlooked.

This book was also super accessible as an audiobook and in general. I think it’d be worthwhile even just skimming it for someone struggling to maintain a clean or functional home space. It did really change my perspective on ~chores~ for the better.
