This is a really sweet friendship story that draws together a lot of cultural references between the two girls, flipping some stereotypes and modeling how young adolescents might talk through any questions or confusion they have about each other's culture. Specifically, both girls are Chinese but one is more traditional than the other, so culturally they are not as close as one might think.
