amanda montell has a writing style that i really enjoy when it comes to “fun” topics like cults and her newest release based on overthinking. when utilized to explain misogyny in language, it comes off more flippant than funny. i didn’t hate this by any means, i liked a lot of what she said and she taught me a few things. but i think a more serious topic lends to a more serious tone. i also did not feel like this covered intersectionality nearly as much as it could’ve, mainly focusing on white women and their experience. additionally, if you have read any feminist literature whatsoever (or are a woman yourself), you will already know and understand most of what she’s saying. i thought it was good and don’t want to deter anyone from reading it, but it didn’t blow me away.
