It’s so hard when you’ve finished a genius read to put words on it.

Reading The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms reminded me of the first time I read and found comfort and awe in fantasy.
NK Jemisin presents in these easy yet so complex and layered atmospheric piece of literature, a developed and characteristic world with high stakes politics and a main character that would do anything to save her people and honour the legacy of her mother.

I absolutely loved Yeine, the MC, she was determined, strong yet so fragile and sensible when it came to intimacy and love. She was real and committed yet afraid and I loved that about her.
Nahadoth was so compelling and charismatic, it made me want to know him and protect him. I loved how he was written as a dark and twisted character yet showed none of the toxic and unhealthy tropes that can be found in other characters like him.

Sieh was tender and sweet yet made me uneasy at times and I could really feel Yeine’s apprehension but uncontrolled mother like love.

Finally the worldbuilding was excellent, masterpiece and so elaborate!
I’m reading volume 2 right now and I can’t wait on going through NK Jemisin’s whole bibliography.
