Sylvie returns to her childhood home, where sixteen years earlier, her older sister Persephone went missing, never returning home after sneaking out to meet her boyfriend. Though her body was found three days later, her murder remains unsolved. Sylvie's estranged mother, Annie, receives cancer treatment, where Sylvie runs into her sister's former boyfriend. Ben, now a nurse, claims his innocence even now, pushing Sylvie into attempting to unravel the truth behind what happened to her sister.
Reminding myself that this is a debut novel, I think that 3☆ is a generous rating for The Winter Sister. I swear that I've read at least four or five books with similar plot lines, often with less unnecessary exposition. The clues to the big twists were a bit obvious, but it was still a fun read.
