The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff
4.0

This is vivid and realistic story that follows Marcus as he sets off into the depths of Scotland to try and find his father's eagle, that of the Ninth LEgion that were lost north of the wall many years ago. Sutcliffe brings Roman Britain to life with her vivid descriptions creating a story that is gripping from start to finish. The balance between the action scenes and the dialogue is pretty much perfect, although some of the earlier scenes are a little slow but they do add a depth and meaning to the story that would otherwise be lost. I'm definitely going to be reading more by Rosemary, that's for sure.
