Other Words for Home
by Jasmine Warga
This is a beautifully told story of Jude, a young girl who has had to leave Syria, with her mother and move to the United States, leaving behind her older brother and her father, where Jude finds out who she is in her new home.
I truly loved the being with Jude on her journey, where we see her life in Syria with her friends and at her father’s shop, to coming to live in America with her family she doesn’t know. Seeing how Jude’s cousin and those at Jude’s new school treated her, brought me back to when I was in school and how those who were 'different' were treated. Unfortunately, the racism and prejudice that Jude and her mother faced, are still faced by people all around the world.
I hope everyone picks up this book, both young and old, and falls in love with the with Jude the way I have.
