A powerful book with themes of love, commitment, race, incarceration, and more. I found the pacing a bit uneven and some of the approaches to relationships frustrating, but overall enjoyed the book. I did want more character development — with all that happens in the book, I would have appreciated seeing how the characters struggled and grew outside the strict main plot line.
