Orlando by Virginia Woolf
5.0

Wow, what a wild read!! This book cemented Virginia Woolf’s position as probably my favorite author. It is so wildly imaginative and really felt like an unreserved outpouring of what lies deep within her heart and mind. And I definitely did not expect the astute and lucid observations of gender in society, as well as the candidly feminist discussions of gender roles, hierarchy, and the society. I especially loved the distinctly queer and trans themes in this book - again unexpected but some of my favorite things about it. Woolf was so far ahead of her time!! Again, the language is a little plainer than her previous works I’ve read, but it is no less expressive and vividly springs to life. I definitely need to come back and read it a second time, and maybe then I will be able to understand a little more of its soul.
