A Woman of Independent Means by Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey
5.0

The book is written in epistolary style, but only letters written by the main character, Bess, so we don't get to see how her corespondents feel.
The woman is very human - she is kind, and generous, and caring, and manipulative, narcissistic and condescending. She is as racist and privileged as any wealthy of the time would be so some of the letters are more than a little problematic. But somehow that is also the point.
The book dragged a little toward the end but the last couple of pages had a big impact.
