2.5
challenging dark reflective sad medium-paced

I'm familiar with David Goggins through social media and decided to read to this on a plane ride to SF from NYC.

The beginning of the book is really the most captivating and saddest part of the story. Hearing about David's upbringing is really sad, and it's clear the man has suffered through a lot of trauma in his life.

The book falters in the later half, and becomes pretty tough to read. I really resonated a lot more with hearing about his journey through marine bootcamp and losing the weight.

As I reflect on the book a few months after reading it, I think the most useful piece of advice is the "cookie jar" idea David talks about (effectively a gratitude jar but in your mind!). The rest of the book didn't really resonate with me as far as self-improvement or self-values go. I think it's worth at least the read for the first half, maybe skip or stop when it gets to the point where David runs the 100 miler.
