You ever think to yourself "I could've written that better?". Yeah me neither, until this very book.
Holy dang, I feel like I just read one of those A.I. drafts made to Frankenstein pros and tropes together into a single narrative.
It's a Hallmark book, plain and simple. You know the stereotypes, the overused buzzwords. Man protects girl, girl falls in love, man has sex with girl, girl gives blowjob as thanks, girl girlbosses and man gets jealous.
This was not the right book as a first-time erotica reader, well actually, this was not the right book as a reader of any kind. There's so much happening and yet so little at the same time. At one point, the overprotective manchild warns the MC of getting kidnapped, and 1 page later, we fly through a hostage plot as if we were only describing what one of the characters was eating for brunch in maybe half a page or so, from the perspective of already knowing what was going to happen. It's crazy how much story is left out for the sake of skipping through development and fabricating this forced bond between the two main characters. And even after all that, the romance is practically non-existent. It's just physical at this point, with badly written dialogue about how the two of them were made for each other or whatnot. I'm sorry, but there's no chemistry between these two outside of some shared masochistic sexual fantasies. To this day I ask myself if they even cared for one another. And don't get me started on the male lead... Jesus, what an absolute brat. He constantly mentions how he prioritizes the MC's safety above all else while on the other hand doing everything humanly possible to put her at risk just to fulfill some disturbing sense of ownership. The audacity of this man is unmatched by anything I've ever seen before and is all but tripled by the end of the book. Talk about a punchable face...
Also, take a shot every time the MC's hardened nipples are used as a direct parallel to the male lead's boner... And be sure to have 911 on speed dial.
