Pax, Journey Home by Sara Pennypacker

5.0

Oh how I love Pax and Peter and their relationship. After the war, lots of land and water was damaged and some lakes had heavy metals in them. Peter is on his way to his childhood home, away from Vola, who has given him a home and comfort since his father died in the war and he decided he didn’t want to stay with his grandfather. So he joins the Water Warriors, who are reclaiming the water, while he journeys home. And along the way Pax and his baby girl are on a journey too (I forget why). It takes a while but they meet up and I won’t say much more about the rest. The ending ties up quickly; I had more patience in me to hear how Peter ended up where he ended up, but I also appreciate how when Peter finally had some realizations, he quickly acts on them. The boy/fox alternating chapters was perfection, this time with Pax explaining things to his daughter. A wonderful adventure with a bit of speculation thrown in. Highly recommended, both books.
