This book reminded me of how obnoxious and self-centered teenagers can be (my own teenage years included *cringe*)! That aside, the book effectively illustrates how things are not always what they seem, and we should be kind and understanding of others as much as we can. Also, how wanting to be cool can be damaging; it's easier for everyone - most especially yourself - to just be yourself. Easy to say but hard to do when you're a teenager, and the story's conflicts and redemption of the main character shows that.
