adrianhurchin 's review for:
The Cloak
by Nikolai Gogol
I really enjoyed my second outing with Nikolai Gogol, having read [b:The Nose|22849249|The Nose|Nikolai Gogol|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1406894725l/22849249._SY75_.jpg|1265588] yesterday for my daily short story.
Compared to The Nose, this story is a lot less surreal and focuses on the life and death of Akaky Akakievich. A man who's simple, but content, life is thrown into disarray when the time comes to replace his coat.
My favourite line, from right at the start of his life, was: "They christened the child, whereat he wept and made a grimace, as though he foresaw that he was to be a titular councillor."
