Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak

5.0

This is one of those books that I hesitate to recommend to people, because I feel if they read it they will see a piece of my heart, raw and rare and vulnerable, spilled out on the pages.
I read this book just after I lost someone very close to me for the first time in my life. I’m someone who loves writing but I couldn’t seem to put my grief into words. I couldn’t tell anyone how it felt. Reading this was like navigating the maze of my grief and reaching its centre. I felt seen. Perhaps this relatability is what endeared me to this book so much.
Either way, this will always have a special place in my heart and Markus Zusak remains to this day my favourite author.
