And I have finished every published Vorkosigan novel!.

It doesn't necessarily end with a bang, but at least it ends on a final note that works as an ending.

Gentlemen Jole and the Red Queen is very much a slice of life novel, and it follows a character who was a main character early on, who has been mostly in the background for a long time, and reminds you that they actually have a life where complicated stuff happens as well. It then also follows a "new character"(he had been mentioned but had never been important).

The plot of this novel....kinda exists, I guess. It's basically about the new character having to make a decision about what the rest of his life will be, and it is kinda just slice of life, him getting that decisions, and him making it. I do also think, especially early on there is a little exposition between the 2 main characters of these novels, because they have so much shared history, but we saw none of it. There is also a chapter early on, that you could not pay me to write. It's not objectionable, it was just like.....wow, we got a chapter dedicated to this.

So a quarter of the way in, I was kinda bored, i'm not going to lie. But I should have trusted the process, of course I ended up enjoying it quite a bit, it was quite compelling. A certain character showing up helped a lot. But the character interactions are generally just so so good. And a book about a career decision of a character I didn't know before this book worked damnit! I was really invested in the choice he made.

Also, something I can't get to into because spoilers, but played with romance genre conventions in a way that is funny.

Still ends as my least favorite Vorkosigan novel, but alas my least favorite Vorkosigan novel is not bad.
