Roomies by Christina Lauren

3.5

I had been apprehensive about picking up a Christina Lauren book after REALLY not liking Beautiful Bastards. I've seen a lot of people say that that book isn't indicative of the quality of writing in their more recent books, so when I saw the Roomies audiobook was available at my library, I decided to borrow it.

I had a really fun time with this book. What particularly worked for me, in comparison to the previous Christina Lauren I read, is that I actually I liked the protagonist. I always love reading from characters who are readers because it feels like we have something in common and this book had that. I found her to be very relatable, not just in the way she thought but also her post-grad "what do I do now?" predicament.
Seeing her grow more confident about herself and stop treating herself like a side character was kind of inspiring, to be honest.

But it wasn't just Holland that I liked, all the other characters were interesting too. I genuinely enjoyed the relationships between Holland and her uncles, and of course, Holland and Calvin. They were so sweet and fun together. I liked their banter and chemistry.

As for the plot, it was a bit unrealistic but still enjoyable. I liked the pace of the book; it didn't dawdle or drag except maybe a little bit at the end. So overall, it's a great lighthearted read if you're looking for one!
