So cool to live in a time where we can see fiction becoming reality before our very eyes!! 🤪🤪🤪
You already know exactly what this is. I knew this would be a hard read specifically at this moment in time but it really affected me on a deeply depressing and profound level. I love dystopians and I think while I probably would have "enjoyed" this more fully had I read it at a different time in my life, it hit harder for me right now. I absolutely loved the writing, so affecting and darkly moody. In a surprise twist, I liked the ambiguous ending here - I think anything more final would have felt out of place for me and I liked it being left to our imagination what happens next. The epilogue was subtly chilling and topped it all off just enough for me. I'm excited to get to The Testaments next.
One can't help but wonder how they would react in a situation like this and since I can't have kids I know I at least wouldn't be subjected to being a Handmaid, but I'll be damned before they ever get me to submit to being an Aunt so maybe I'd get "lucky" and they'd just kill me instead!
I watched the first season of the show a few years back and never finished because it felt just a little too real, and I don't know if I'll go back to it bc that obviously won't have improved in any way since then lmfao
