Yuri Bear Storm, Volume 3 by Ikunigomakinako
2.0

2.5 stars. Really, it's only the completionist in me that made me finish this. But also... the wasted potential makes me so frustrated! I do think this could have been a weird, uncanny but moving story about internalised homophobia, queer coming of age, complicated parental relationships, consuming the ones you love... but instead it's just nonsensical and a little silly. Happily, there weren't any underwear shots in this one, which honestly makes me mad when I think about them in previous volumes. And there were a couple of genuinely hilarious moments. But yeah, the story as a whole didn't come together coherently, and I find I don't really have a lot to say about it. Some of the plot stuff just flew over my head.

- "Do you hate me now that I'm a bear?" is the new "Would you love me if I was a worm?"
- The embryo scene was certainly... something. What the hell.
- Both generations of couples having a scene where one of them asks the other to kill them... kinda choice. I love that shit in fucked up romance. (And it was a little hilarious when Leia was like "Um, sorry, can't shoot you. I'm only 17, I don't have a licence or a real gun.")

And... it's been a couple days, so I really don't remember much else about this. I've realised that this was based on anime, and from what I've seen here, I'm not sure if I'd like it. But in the bonus chapters, the mangaka did mention that there were some things from the anime that weren't adapted, and some characters who were more fleshed out... IDK, we'll see. I'm pretty sure the anime will be just as shallow, or even more shallow than this is.
