i’m not gonna say much because a lot of readers said it better before me: butler did an incredible job here, especially for this being written in the 90s. if you read this, try to do it physically. as one of my gr reads friends said in her review, the narrator is supposed to be a teenager and it’s an older actress doing the audiobook and she performs it like an adult. it takes you out of the story because you forget that this is a really young girl going through so much trauma. speaking of trauma, this book needs hella trigger warnings like i wasn’t in the mood for something this horrifying. i’m still glad i got through it. it’s a must read, especially for lovers of speculative fiction or a full-on premonition in this case.
