Despite the fact that I am far from being a beginner, I was pretty excited to read this book. It is well written and easy to read, but I did feel like too many topics were covered in an incredibly small amount of pages. This book should have been at least 400 pages to actually be useful. I know it’s a beginners book, but so many topics were introduced and barely touched upon. There isn’t enough information on each topic to really get you going. I also found the writing to be a little repetitive at times - still good, but repetitive.

Maybe I’m wrong or being too harsh. I didn’t have books like this when I was learning. (Way to make myself sound older than I am, right?) The short beginner books that I read were detailed and descriptive, touching on topics just isn’t enough for me. I need depth. Since this book was meant to be a “beginner’s guide to practical magic and spell casting,” I really think it should have focused on that - not chakras, multiple kinds of divination, dream interpretation, and herbal remedies. Yes, those things are often tied to magick and spellcrafting, but it’s just too much information for one book. The actual spellcrafting portion of this book is only 25 pages. 25 out of 200 pages are on one of two primary purposes of the book. That’s not enough and it’s not good enough for me.

I received this book for free through Callisto Publisher’s Club in exchange for an honest review.
