Instructions for Dancing
by Nicola Yoon
So I have a habit of requesting books other people recommend to me from the library and then being totally surprised when they’re ready for me to read and then powering through them before the due date is up.
This was one of those books. I didn’t really have an idea of what it was about when it became available, but I’m not super discriminatory when it comes to things I read so figured I’d dive in. The cover looked fun, so I assumed it’d be a chick lit style book I’d finish quickly and then forget.
While I wasn’t entirely wrong, I have to say that this book was actually more about a teenage girl’s experience dealing with her parents divorce, the changing of relationships, and growing up overall with a side of girl-meets-boy (and an unexpected ending). I won’t include it in any of my favorite books of all time lists, but it genuinely surprised me that there was true depth behind the flourishing cover and author’s last works.
Anyway, all this to say this was a four star book I expected to be a three star book.
