Bright Like Midnight by Julia Wolf

I’m not sure where to even begin. Bright Like Midnight was so much more than I ever anticipated.
After reading Soft Like Thunder and seeing how Zadie and Amir met, I was next level intrigued as to how their story would play out, and Wolf delivered tenfold. Zadie and Amir were a raging inferno of chemistry.
Zadie is incredibly sweet with a growing sense of sass. She'd been through things that could have turned her bitter and angry, but she stayed true to herself and became a ray of sunshine to everyone around her. She was shyer and more reserved than her friends, and as I read, I got a front-row seat to see her discover an inner strength she didn't know she possessed.
Amir was, to put it mildly, complicated. He was not your typical college student. In some ways, Amir had two personalities: a brilliant college student and a darker, more dangerous side. He had a commanding presence, and when he spoke, people paid attention. He wore a mask, not allowing others to see him for all of his amazingness; it was as if he were acting. Meeting Zadie seemed to bring out another side, a hot AF possessive alpha-hole that made me swoon with every murdery threat.
The chemistry between Zadie and Amir was palpable in the previous book, but it paled in comparison to the inferno that burned between them. On the surface, it would appear that they would not be compatible, but it felt as if they were made for each other. They had a strong physical attraction, but it was so much more. They were each other's peace, her his light, and he her safe haven.
My feelings were invested in Amir and Zadie’s story before I read the first word. From the moment I met Zadie’s character, I felt a connection to her. As I read, I understood that she had a view of herself that was nothing like what most people see in her. Everything between them was so intense that it seemed as if every emotion, anger, passion, and love emanated from the pages straight into my heart.
Bright Like Midnight is a top read of 2022 and my new favorite Wolf novel. An addictively unputdownable blend of ardent chemistry, a sweet, sassy heroine, a possessive alpha-hole, witty banter, hair-raising twists, angst, and steam.
