First time actually reading Sherlock Holmes. The typical relationship between Holmes and Watson is already established, and it's not hard to see why they would become the most famous duo in classic literature. The case itself is a bit simple, but it's interesting enough to keep me invested.

However, one thing I do not appreciate is the stereotypical way of presenting the case and motivations of the killer at the end of the novel. Doyle takes this cliche to the extreme, dedicating the entire half of the novel and utilising a brand new perspective absent of Holmes to have us understand and sympathise with the killer. And it was surprising that it was a scathing portrayal of Mormons. It's a ballsy move, but not executed overly well in my opinion, even if I grew to be invested in the killer's story. The change in perspective felt way too much of a whiplash.
