vandermeer continues to amaze me. i have to admit i was little bit worried and wary of this book. i'm always excited for more southern reach content, but was so satisfied with Acceptance i was unsure if there would be anything really left to say. or if i'd be satisfied with the answers given.
there is a lot of payoff in this book that i appreciate. many things connect where you think might not, especiallty new information that i initially thought might offer nothing, would eventually become answers the more i thought about it. vandermeer knows how to land an ending too.
i wasnt sure how much i'd like the shift to lowry's perspective. it was such a huge veer in voice and not in one i liked at first. but i'm glad my desire to learn more about the first expedition kept me pushing through it. lowry's incredulous nature is an interesting juxtaposition and despite how unseriously he takes everything, it doesn't take away from any of the unsettling parts.
