Daisy Jones & The Six

dark
emotional
funny
I don't think I've felt this morally conflicted over relationships/characters in a long while, my main response to everything is internally and externally SCREAMING.
First off, this is such a well crafted story. This is my first story purely in an interview format, I've read books in letters/emails/messages etc format but not interview format and it was so interesting, and so incredibly well done in telling a story, developing characters, and conveying all the emotions. The audiobook was also amazing, the voice acting work of some of those scences, the pauses and difficulty of getting words out, particularly in some Billy and Daisy scenes gahhhh. I did find some of the voices hard to always know who is who (Pete, Eddie, Warren, sometimes Rod and Teddy) but honestly it didn't really detract from it 😂
I was expecting the band breakup to big and explosive but honestly it made so much more sense how it unfolded, so much was boiling and festering underneath, it had to give eventually, it was not good for them.
I absolutely loved the moments of unreliable narrators, when they would say things that would directly contradict each other, whether that be small hilarious things, or big emotional moments.
I kept on expecting Daisy and Billy to kiss but I actually find it fascinating that this line was never crossed (tho them singing into the same mic had me like girllllllll) even though so many emotional lines obviously were - though a lot of that was wrapped up in their music and writing connection but still they were in love with each other!! Daisy knew from before and Billy finally realised it towards the end, however he made the conscious and deliberate choice to choose his wife and children, which is the correct choice!
Just so many layers and thoughts, addiction being a core part of this story and Billy and Daisy, being to drawn to someone who is similar to you but that not necessarily being healthy, making the choice to trust and have faith even if the person hasn't earnt it at that point - like Camilla !!! AHH she was truly too good for this world 🙌 The true backbone of Billy and was also so instrumental for Daisy. The childhood neglect that so undoubtedly shaped Daisy, making Billy's rejection hurt so much more because he is the first person to truly understand her and she feels like if he can't love her, who can agwhwhe when he does indeed love her, he just has choices to make !!! I desperately want an epilogue cos I do imagine them reuniting post book, being sober, older, having done a lifetime of healing ðŸ˜
Simone was also amazing and I loved Karen - the female characters were great. And I love Warren just being there for vibes 😂
Overall, really liked this and am quite surprised to the degree to which I did!! Will look into reading her other books and am keen to see the TV show, tho some of the differences are already irking me!! 👀
