My review:

  • ummm let’s just say that I’ve never had to make a character list before reading A Murder Is Announced
  • there were way too many characters to keep track of—I did get some of them down by the end, but there were still times where I was like “who’s that??”
  • the idea of a murder being announced was cool, but I just didn’t like how the rest of it played out
  • this was definitely NOT Agatha’s best work, so please don’t start with this one… sorry Biba 😅
  • okay so bedsides there being too many characters, the whole story behind the murder was convoluted (I think that’s the word we’re using to describe A Murder Is Announced lol)
  • I pride myself on guessing a good 90% of Agatha’s much more famous book, Death on the Nile, but I didn’t see any of the plot twists coming except for one
  • and then there was a character that seemed to have come out of nowhere. Seriously I don’t remember Agatha mentioning them until the last quarter of the book
  • and maybe this is because I live in quite literally a different century but I didn’t see the need for some of the strange dialogue between some characters. There was this whole bit at the end that I was like “huh??? Why is this necessary?”
  • I know that this is a Miss Marple book, but I feel like she wasn’t in it all that much. And then she miraculously solved the case after a little bit?

Moral of the story: this was definitely not my favourite Agatha Christie book. It was generally convoluted, confusing, and the twists came out of nowhere. Sadly this is going to be a 3 star read for me… truly I wish it was higher 😞
