I'm Thinking of Ending Things is a beautiful book that I picked up at a perfect (and terrible) time. The ending of the book was so well written that I cried, which I rarely do when I read something. I encourage any reader who starts reading and doesn't gel with the story to keep going because it is extremely deceptive. I initially took issue with the dynamic between the (unnamed) main character and Jake, but it becomes something beautiful and heartbreaking when you realize that the entire book is actually Jake talking to himself . When you view the conflict with this context, the girlfriend wants to break up because Jake can't have a good relationship with himself . Don't be like me, though, I don't recommend a person read this if they're going through a difficult time!
Graphic: Mental illness, Suicide, Stalking
Moderate: Toxic relationship, Death of parent
Minor: Ableism, Pedophilia
This book is a psychological story where the reader is left to guess about what is real or imaginary.
