The Lottery and Other Stories
by Shirley Jackson

Love that I still have more Shirley Jackson to read. Perfect for the season.
Some of these are brilliant, some of them are repetitive. Some are wickedly funny ("The Witch," "Got a Letter from Jimmy,") and most of them are heartbreaking.
Jackson's claustrophobic domestic horror is relatable and painful, even if the repetition of themes becomes too much in a short story collection. She is a master of dramatic irony.
I am left itching to know more about Jim Harris--and paradoxically dread ever hearing about him again.
