Star Wars: The Last Jedi by Jason Fry
5.0
I don't think I can say enough good things about this novelization. It follows the movie to a T, and the expanded version offers readers more details that greatly enhance and help unify the Star Wars universe at this point in the Galactic timeline.
There were a few places where Fry's characterizations and takes admittedly did not align with my own, but that doesn't detract from the novel overall. It was very well written and wonderfully descriptive. From what I can remember, Foster's novelization of The Force Awakens didn't delve too deeply into the science and mechanisms of hyperspace, the engineering of spacecraft, and internal operations of the First Order's fleet. Fry provided that and in great detail, which helps make this insightful and also rounds out some of what is depicted in the movie.
Finally, the backstories that are wonderfully woven into the main narrative are excellent in helping to understand characters, their motives, and their thought processes as well as the greater impetus and strategies of the Resistance and the First Order.
