The Jungle Book
by Rudyard Kipling
This was my children’s classic pick for the month and I will admit that I was not expecting it. Having grown up watching the Disney film, and being aware of numerous other adaptations over the years, I was pretty sure that I knew what to expect with it, but it felt very different. The writing was far more classical in nature, and I imagine that young children today may struggle a bit more, but also Mowgli’s story is a bit different, including his relationship with Shere Khan and the ending. Also Mowgli actually only featured in half the book; the rest was filled with other stories and poems from the jungle. So although I did enjoy it, it didn’t completely wow me.
