The Sense of an Ending
by Julian Barnes
I took this book out of the library Saturday morning, and read it that afternoon (only 163 pages). I really liked it, but it left me with a lot of questions. So I re-read it on Sunday morning, hoping to glean more clues to some things that had left me confused. Re-reading it didn't clear anything up, but reinforced for me the power of the writing, particularly in such a concise novel.
I think a reader's reaction to this book is meant to mimic the plot; that is, to leave things open to interpretation and recollection after the fact, and in a way, the fact that not all loose-ends are tied up is probably the book's strongest attribute.
I did find some interesting interpretations here: andrewblackman.net/2012/05/the-sense-of-an-ending-explained/
