Anne of Green Gables / Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery

5.0

(mild spoilers but not enough to mark it so) Anne is who I want to be. I love her optimism, her sunny disposition, and the way she makes her life around her a dream. I love the opportunity readers are given to watch her grow. One of my favourite lines is when Marissa asks why she stopped using big words, and Anne says something like she doesn't feel like she needs them anymore. What a big, inconsequential, yet massive character development! (For full context, you'll have to read the book.) I love the second book, and the deep, meaningful relationships she cultivates with her children. I love the first book, adn her crazy misadventures. I love the "bosom friendship" she shares with Diana; my best friend and I compare ourselves to them, and I use "bosom friend" among my closest compatriots. I love how honest the books are, how lovely the descriptions of Lover's Lane are, or the flower fields in the woman's house in the second book. I love the development of her romantic relationship, and how wonderful everything is. I love the books incredibly much.
